Electronics
There are a ton of gadgets that are becoming necessities. Here's what we'd recommend.
iPod
If you don't alreayd have one, you'll want an iPod to make the walks to class a little more enjoyable. Or class itself.
- Education Discount available, or free with new computer during Back To School promo: Apple.com
Headphones
Just in case you don't share your roommate's taste for the soundtrack for final fantasy, bring some headphones to tune them out.
- Noise-cancelling, cheaper than Bose: Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones
- Great deal: Sennheiser HD 202 Headphones
Alarm Clock
A reliable alarm clock, especially if you, like many a college student, have a hard time waking up in the morning, is one of the most important things to have at college.
- Play your iPod: iHome IH9 (Black)
- Simple and Reliable: Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black)
Flash Drive
These make backing up and moving your data a lot easier, and make for a much easier way to carry any files you may need with you, without lugging around your laptop. You might opt not to bring a printer, and just carry down your files via USB drive to your campus library.
- They're pretty cheap now, but there's a wide range of sizes, so pick out what you'll need
DVD Player
If you have an older computer that can't play DVDs (and you're roommates and best friends don't either)... you gotta have a way to play DVDs.
Camera
To capture all the memories of college, a camera is a must. Especially when you don't have a little one on your phone. Also makes for a cool hobby.
- This one is your call depending on all the specs you want, and whether you want a simple and compact camera or one that allows you put on lenses
Batteries
There is an excellent chance that you brought something with you that uses batteries. And there is an excellent chance that they will die. Bring some from home.
